jeans has been nothing short of a story in itself.
Origin of Jeans
It is believed that Italy, which has a long history of producing textiles and tailoring, is where
the word "jean" originated. About 400 years ago, sailors in Genova (or Genoa) used coarse
twilled cotton cloth to make ship sails and pants. In honour of the Genoese, this material was
named jeans (genes).
In popular culture later in the middle of the 19th century jeans were developed in the United
States as tough workwear for construction workers. Copper rivets were used to reinforce the
seams and other stress points. Eventually, the working class all over the United States and
later the world adopted them as comfortable workwear.
For a long time, jeans were recognized as a typical piece of "Western" clothing worn by
American cowboys.
